We are a community of artists based at Acme’s Billet Road Studios in Walthamstow, bringing together practices across painting, drawing, lens-based media, sculpture, installation, performance, jewellery, curating, printmaking, and interdisciplinary research-led work.
As part of this year’s Walthamstow Art Trail, we open our doors to the local community and invite visitors to explore Arcana, a group exhibition presented alongside Open Studios. Visitors are invited to encounter works in progress, meet the artists, and experience the diverse creative practices unfolding within Billet Road Studios.
Presented on the ground floor of the studios, Arcana unfolds the practices of 18 artists who, through diverse media, emphasise the agency of materials and the processes that shape them. The exhibition foregrounds acts of alteration as generative tools and invites viewers to reflect on the mysteries embedded within transformation, manipulation, decay, and reconfiguration.

Today I found something I was not looking for: a cloud, shaped like the word no. I tried to recall the meaning of this word, but was only reminded of the time I was told that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Before I became a feather on the wind, I believed that my potential lies with other people, but I am becoming an avoidant-type, avoiding even myself. After endless wandering through a dead-end world, I found a net for catching thoughts. I spent long days and nights collecting many thoughts, and was left with a nameless confusion of attitudes, beliefs, hopes and fears; human, animal, machine. What did they sound like, what did they feel like; sharp, taut, soft or liquid?
Bad habitus, a group show where you might find something you were (or weren’t) looking for, where the present is no less dark than the past, and its mystery is equal to anything the future might hold (Paul Auster).
Bad Habitus is a collaborative project between Mullers Gallery, Junior Collective and a group of emerging artists.
Featured artists include Lucienne Bestell, Gitte Moller, Sandy Haris, Bert Pauw, Sitaara Stodel, Ruby Swinney and Michaela Younge.
